Michelle Thomas, M.Ed. – Co-Founder
Head of School, Secondary Science, and Fine Arts Teacher
Michelle has a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a BA in Science Education. She also has specialized training for teaching reading, writing and math from the Hill Center in North Carolina, using a research driven method proven to be effective for students with AD/HD, Dyslexia and other learning disabilities. She has over 15 years of experience developing individualized curriculum and teaching reading, writing and math to students with learning differences, dyslexia, Autism, and emotional/behavioral issues. During her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband Sean and their dog Sunshine, reading, assisting with the youth group at her church, and painting.
Candice has a BA in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas. She also has obtained her Colorado k-6 endorsement. She taught pre-K and kindergarten for the last 3 years, working up from an assistant teacher position to the lead teacher in that time. She has a deep desire to meet each student where they are and enjoys doing research on new innovations in order to meet those individual needs.
Secondary Language Arts, Fine Arts, and Electives Teacher
Shawna joins us with a dual BA in both Elementary Education and Language Arts from Pacific Coast Bible College. She taught Secondary Language Arts for 10 years at another private school, as well as Fine Arts for 1 year. She also worked as a literacy and math interventionist for the last 3 years in a public elementary school. She has a strong commitment to student success and has worked with students with all different types of learning profiles.
Secondary Social Studies Teacher
Bill has a BA in Social Studies Education. He has been working for the last several years with At-Risk kids to meet their academic requirements, as well as spending time backpacking in the Colorado Rockies. He also does free-lance writing and has assisted us on numerous occasions in the last 2 years as a substitute teacher. His experience with a diverse group of kids and their needs has taught him that each one can be successful when given the appropriate tools.
